This
museum is private; it has been founded by volunteers who have
worked very hard to overcome many difficulties and problems. Far
from being a “museum-death”, it is a museum that aims at proposing
our culture, with didactic objectives which can lead to social
improvement. For this reason during these last years a lot of
cultural events have been organized, in cooperation with the
“Casa
museo Antonino Uccello” in Palazzolo Acreide and
contacts with schools and students have been taken in order to
stimulate them to think of the potential economical development that
can be achieved through the right use of our cultural and
environmental patrimony. At the moment, 7 of the 21 young people
who started the project in 1991 work in the museum. It is run by the
“Association for the Preservation of the Iblean Rural Culture”. It
has nine museal units: a casa ro massaru, the house
of farmer’s house, u parmientu, the wine press,
a putia ro firraru, the backsmith’s shop, a casa ro
iurnataru, the agricultural day-labourer’s house, a
putia ro quarararu, the tinker’s shop, a putia ro
falignami, the carpenter’s shop, u trappitu,
the olive-press, a putia ro scarparu e r’appuntapiatti,
the shoemaker and dish-repairer’s shop, the Saint Lucy
water-mill, a didactic laboratory and a
section dedicated to the wheat cycle and to the
popular art.
